Although there are several rules of thumb, a typical restaurant should allocate 3% – 6% of sales to restaurant marketing. And remember – you cannot build a house with one pillar. You need to have several ongoing, consistent methods of marketing, and not all need cost money. Sometimes TIME and EFFORT have larger payoffs. IE Social Media. Creating accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, Yelp, Myspace – are all free.

If July is your busiest month, you should spend an proportionate amount on your restaurants’ marketing budget in that month. Fish when the fish are biting. Spend your restaurant marketing dollar where it will have the best return for your restaurant – when there are customers.
